Multitrack Export Guidelines

-      BEFORE YOU EXPORT:

  • Make sure your production and arrangement are finalized. I am here to mix your song, not rearrange it :)

    • If you are not 100% sure about arrangement, or an element, that’s ok! Take a few days to listen to it and make sure you have it nailed down exactly how you want it before you send me multitracks. I am never going to get the edit exactly how you as the artist or producer want it to be, so it’s better if you do the edit exactly how you want it to be done.

  • Make sure your edits are done correctly (fades, crossfades, splices, comps, etc.)

  • Make sure all your tracks are in time with one another. It’s hard for me to try to guess where you were trying to put a vocal ad lib if it’s not in time.

  • Name all your tracks appropriately – No “AUDIO_1” please.

-      WHEN YOU EXPORT:

  • Please export all individual tracks.

    • If you have a drum bus track, please export all the individual elements of the drum group.

  • Please give me your tracks in the Sample Rate and Bit Depth they were recorded in. If you recorded in 44.1kHz, do not up-sample to 96kHz! I will work with what you have.

  • Export tracks in batches based on each instrument/“food group”, and in separate folders. (All drum tracks exported to a “Drums” folder, all bass tracks exported to a “Bass” folder, etc.)

  • If there are any tracks that you already have specific creative processing on (overly compressed, distorted, filter sweeps, flangers, delays, reverbs, etc.) please leave that on your track while exporting! I will not be able to replicate your creative FX exactly the same way that you made them to be, and I want all of those elements to be exactly the way that you’ve worked so hard to achieve.

    • In regards to Lead Vocal, I would like to have 3 separate bounces of the Lead Vocal:

      • Completely processed with all dry and wet processing. This is so I can get an idea of all the effects processing you had in mind for the Lead Vocal.

      • Processed with only the dry processing (EQ, compression, saturation, etc.). This will most likely be what I use as my starting point.

      • No processing. No EQ, compression, reverb, or delay. This will be my last resort if I can’t get a good sound out of the processed vocal.

-      AFTER YOU EXPORT:

  • Please give me a demo mix or producer mix of your song the way that you have it now.

  • Feel free to provide screenshots of any processing you have that you’d like me to replicate.

  • Please provide me the following notes:

    • Any particular mix decisions you’d like me to make.

    • The tempo and key of your song.

    • A song you’d like me to reference to while mixing.

    • The format you want me to deliver your finished mix in (Sample Rate and Bit Depth).

If you have any questions feel free to reach out!

(P.S. I know this seems like a lot of rules to follow, but all these guidelines are to help enable me to mix your song the best that I can! The less mundane organizational tasks that I do, the more creative energy I will have to apply to your song! By following all these guidelines, you are ensuring that I will be able to give my 100% creative effort towards this song, and not lose focus or energy spending an hour organizing!)
